vista on xp network

seems i can't find an answer to this so here is the question.
my daughter just bought a laptop running vista (not sure which one other than home) i have a network set up running xp pro with 3 computers running off it using one as the internet connection (using wireless card for modem on this computer) internet computer is hardwired to ethernet hub and other computers run thru this hub to access the network and internet. when i hook daughters laptop to the hub it says limited connectivity and will not connect to internet.
Question: Is this a common problem trying to get vista to work on a network set up with xp or is there a setting i can change that will allow it to connect? i am using a linksys 5 port hub and have tried redoing the network many many times. all the xp computers work fine no matter how i set up the network just the laptop with vista won't connect thru. won't even show up on my network places on any of the xp computers and doesn't show any of the xp computers on her laptop. sorry if i rambled and for the lack of info but i just want to boot the laptop out of the house and buy a wig to replace the hair i have pulled out trying to get it on the network.:cry

 

Go to Start button.
Type "Command" in the text field just above the button and hit <enter>.

You will see a command prompt window.

Type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) and press <enter>

Post what is displayed on your screen.

 

ok had to go in and config it with the ip and dns #'s it never would find my network on it's own but have it up and running now thank goodness i have xp or i never would have found out how to do it or how to set it up. vista is a hunk of junk IMHO.
