I was wondering , as im buying a new mid-range computer , as to wether it would be worth me buying Windows Vista 64 bit and an extra 2gb of ram ( 4gb all together ) or wether I should wait and purchase XP now , and vista in a few months when all the bugs are ironed out.

Links to any articles , or any personal opinions would be perfect - thankyou.

Why spend money on XP now and then get Vista in just "a few months"? Not my idea of wise spending. I'd either get XP and plan on using it for at least a year, or get Vista now. I think many Vista bugs have probably already been ironed out.

Do you have any devices you want to transfer to the new computer that may not have drivers for Vista? I have a webcam that will not work with Vista. Other than that, no problems with Vista on a Notebook PC I bought about 3 months ago.

I have to say what BUGS? please name them all?

OK I joking on name them all, but no OS is perfect and generally they take 1 or 2 Service Packs to be OK, XP was same... Vista will be similar, but what I will say and as 1 who has had Vista is some form or another for nearly 2yrs it is the stablest OS from Microsoft I have ever used... my current Desktop install is the RTM from when I was given it in Nov06 and its not BSOD'd once... yes their have been 3rd party applications that have not worked, but that is not a Microsoft issue, I could not say the same of XP on its RTM release.

Vista SP1 is much more inproved and the speed has increased in some areas, stability has also improved but its still a beat SP1 adn will be more improved by Feb08 which is rough release date.

I will say if you have very new PC parts then Vista is a great option, XP will be more compatible with more of your software, but the 3rd party developers are catching up now with Vista compat versions of many applications.

Everyone had good input till you spouted this nonsense.

You can support XP all you want, but give some reasoning behind it.

    Sheesh.
