Hi,
I have vista as my OS but it is very slow and very difficult to use as it constantly needs updates and patches. Is there a way to put in XP? I think I have that as my old OS on another computer. Could I just use system restore, or do I need to kill it and put in XP? If so, how do I do that? I am not very computer savy but I am sick of vista

There are a couple of choices. One would be to dual boot. Its a bot complicated, you need to create a partition or add a second hard drive. If this is too much, you can insert the XP CD, choose the drive Vista is installed on and choose format before installing from the options. Of course, if XP was on another machine, it will not validate. You might look for a cheaper copy on Ebay.

Just a couple of points if I may:

1) You may void your warranty if Vista was pre-installed.

2) There may not be any XP drivers written for your machine.

3) If you pass the first two, then you will have to partition as MA said above to dual boot which is somewhat complicated to get the Vista boot back.

I don't find constant updates because I turn it off and check them manually on a regular basis. As for it being slow, it runs just fine on my Athlon 3000+ with 1GB RAM. However, if you're a gamer XP is the way to for now. A frien bought Crysis and it was just OK on Vista but screamed on XP64 on Q6600 with 4GB RAM.
