hi, all. ok, i have a few vista questions. i just got this comp this last weekend (like i really needed another comp, but i couldn't pass up the price). anyway, i thought i'd just make 1 thread instead of alot of threads.

question #1: is there anyway to get rid of this annoying popup (pic), when i plug my thumbdrive into my comp? of course i bought all of my thumbdrives before vista. i thought it might have to do with the readyboost, but i don't think so. i haven't tried "scan and fix", as i'm not sure what that'll do, also i need it to work with xp, because that is what the rest of my comps are. thx, sos

question #2: how do you change/edit startup items using win defender? i had initially changed startup items using msconfig. however i read somewhere that you can do it in win defender, so i changed it back.

Q1. you will have to let me think on that one as not seen that before with a USB drive, but worth copying your data off the thumbdrive to your HD to back it up then trying Scan and Fix!?

Q2. Once Defender is open click Tools > Software Explorer > choose if not already as its default Startup Programs in the catagory list and then highlight a startup in the Name / Classification list and choose Disable or Delete from the bottom menu buttons, if you Disable then at later date you can Enable via same menu

Q1. well, i copied everything off of there, and then let it "scan and fix", and of course there were no errors. i put everything back on there and it works on both (xp, and vista). now when i try my other thumb drives, they do the same thing. i guess i'll have to do that to all of them??!!

    Q2.
<-- ok, i couldn't find this, but it's right there on the page (duh). it only let me disable 2 items (sidebar, and adobe update manager).

thx, i'll get around to question #3 in a few (got a few errands to run). - sos

    Hi

Q1. Well I would advise you backup the data and run the scan fix on all drives as they do work once scanned, not seen that issue before, so dont have a clear answer for you on why, I will have a quick search of the MSKBs and MS Newsgroups.

Q2. Click the Show for all users button at bottom of screenshot above and that should highlight the option on other applications to disable., there will however be the odd few that will not have disable option visible as they are likely to be core system files and disabling will cause system instablity ie. Explorer, User init logon etc
