Has anyone seen this problem before?
I reinstalled Vista OS and it boots up ok from a cold start but a reboot seems to go into hiberation mode. Some time the power lite is the only lite on and some times both the power lite and the HD lite is on. The only way out is to hold down on the power button until it powers off and then do a cold power up.
I do not believe it hardware.
the version of Vista is Home Premium.

    Thanks

    Hi

On a clean install before any software was added did this happen?
What security software have you installed and if this PC was reinstalled from a OEM restore CD or partition, did it come with Norton, if so did you fully remove before installing alternative antivirus? if not run this http://www.majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html

Do you have any missing device drivers in Device manager ( Yellow ! marks ) if so what?
Possible is not all devices are installed, especially chipset drivers, check and install all drivers

Looks like Vista does not like one of the following things. Linksys wireless drivers,
Avast or Firefox. I reinstalled the OS and reboot and power down worked ok.
Then I installed the above three things and the problem was back. I'm now reinstalling the OS for the 3rd time and will install one at a time and see which one is causing my problem.

P.S. I removed Norton 1st and things were still working ok.

    Grrrr Vista

Well as we all know Vista is a dog just like window ME was.
Looks like installing my Linksys wireless drivers caused this problem.

    ggrrrrr Vista.

    Thank for all the input.

    Hi

Vista works perfect for me and better than XP so I'm not in the "as we all know catagory" and ME wasnt as bad as many portray, it wasnt the best BUT all OSes have issues, luckily XP has had 2 SPs to fix its problems.

Linksys wireless drivers are the cause not Vista, blame Linksys for not updating?! Email their support and ask why their drivers are causing this issue in Vista ( did you also update to Vista SP1? if not try that also )
