I have searched high and low:major for a registry tweak to change the font color of my desktop shortcut text. Being colorblind i have difficulties seeing / reading text with my favorite wallpapers. Besides is white not boring anyway?! Maybe there is 3rd party software addressing this ? Thankyou for reading my thread. :confused

    Hi

What Windows version are you using?

Colour change dont know off hand as its not in the options but try a size change, may make white easier to read.

At a guess to popular one its XP, then Right click desktop and choose properties > Click Appearance tab and then the Advanced button, then from the ITEM: dropdown list choose ICON and then chaneg the font and size, click ok then apply. Note: it changes all text for icons and not just desktop.

This is Vista's menu as I dont have XP pc on at present, but is same layout

unfortunately the above free app, written in 2005, would not run on my machine, (Vista HP, SP1) I tried the compatability modes in properties, no luck. Changing the Text size still does not help...

    Hi

Just has a play with this d-color XP in Vista SP2, and in this apps system tray icon right click it and in the menu that pops up choose Tile Icons.

Also may need to install this app by rightclicking its setup and Run as Admin and also in compatability set its Compatability at bottom to Run as Admin.

Looked through an old collection of apps on my PC for changing icons etc and maybe this one will help and is Vista compt ~ Iconoid but need to disable drop shadows in the apps then change colour and then re-enable drop shadows. (works for 32bit windows only and may cause the taskbar to disapear randomly until the colour is set and the app closed)

Doesnt work well at all in x64 Vista and did not developers comment on this and gained the port to x64, but very unstable (causes taskbar to disapear randomly while the app is running but once set the colours it works ok when app closed) so likely only compat with 32bit Windows, so wouldnt advise to be used in 64bit, unless you accept its quirks.

D-color running fine on my 32-bit now, and desktop icon text color changeable !!
Other options work fine as well.
    Thanks Halo ! :)
