vista removal

hi -
still trying to get vista off my pc... i have a AMD XP machine and a friend put vista on it.. when i put in my disk, it doesnt boot from it even though i have all boot options set to the cd/dvd drive. but the disk is good b/c i can "explore" it... it wont boot from the disk..

He is trying to remove it. Thats the legal thing to do, even if it is illegal.

Please don't turn people away from help, unless the moment calls for it. This is definately not one of those moments.

 

maybe it's not bootable cd.Run another XPCD,or run this CD on other computer and see what happens.Post what you have done.

Firstly your pc should boot from an XP CD to Windows Setup.

Did you look for the prompt
'any key to boot from cd'
at power up?

Hoever booting is not the issue, I don't think you will be able to format the drive using XP Setup.

You need to delete the Vista partition and create a new one. You can't access the XP recover console to do this.

So you have three options.

Firstly use another operating system boot disk to delete the Vista partition.

Secondly slave the drive to another pc and delete the Vista partition.

Thirdly borrow your friend and his Vista DVD and boot from this.
Boot from the Vista DVD
Choose repair if need be
Choose command prompt from the recovery tool screen
at the command typein
diskpart
Follow the onscreen instructions to delete the Vista partition.
Follow the onscreen instructions to create a new partition.
Change the Vista DVD for your XP CD
Format the partition during install of XP.
