Hello! My friend has a Hp Presario Compaq pc with Vista Home Premium 32 bit with 3 gigs memory.

I just went through the Malware scans on the Malware forum and they said to come here for additional help. The computer is slow still even though I did the speed up vista tools.

Now here is a few problems I am having thus far. When I was told to check the box for normal start up in msconfig I did and then deselected all the programs that were running except antivirus and restarted the computer. Well it automatically went to selective startup again with every program running. I cannot seem to keep it on normal startup.

Issue number 2 When I run sfc/scannow it tells me it cannot repair corrupt files. I will attach the screen shot.

Thanks for any help you can provide...:)

Without the disc, it's not easy to repair Windows.
In the mean time, use CCleaner to disable, not delete, those startup entries that keep returning.
Also run a disc cleanup with CCleaner.

I did run Ccleaner before I did I cleaned up the viruses on the other forum.

I am pretty much done now. I tried to fix startup programs in Ccleaner but it did not work. Weird. It still goes to Selective startup with all programs running.

I have a question they have the same Vista home premium for their Laptop can they use that recovery disk for the PC?

Is it a recovery disc or the actual Windows Vista disc?
If it's the latter, go for it. You might have to enter the Product Key of the PC being repaired.

It does have a recovery part on the drive itself.
