The preloaded instructions on this Vista say: "HP recommends: For best results ....do not shut down your computer....lock it into either sleep or hibernate mode." However, HP tech support (?) says there's a problem with the sleep mode & recommends shutting down. What say the wise ones?

I have a newer HP (less than a year old) and sleep mode works fine for me. There are pro's for shutting down and pro's for never shutting down. The advantages are about equal. I had a Dell for over 5 years that very rarely got shut down. The only thing I have had to replace was the HDD and that was because of bad sectors (not caused by being on all the time)
