    Hello all!

I have just purchase Gateway PC for my 11 year old daughter.

    Specs:
    VISTA home premium 64
    AMD Phenom X4 Processor 9650
    6G DDR2
ATI Radeon HD3200 Integrated Video Card.

I have noticed it slowed down on-line a lot.
Searching takes a lot to bring up the results, video starts and stops a lot. ( seems cant buffer in time and even when it does it breaks up )

I bet its to do with some software I have downloaded.

Its hard to spell out what it was at this time.

I had issues with playing some audio and video files on online radio stations and installed various codec till the issue was gone.

I also noticed the OS installed Java update as well as tons of Win updates incl. sec pack 2.

I wanted to post here all there is but have trouble copy the list from Control Panel and post here.

Any ideas of how to help you help me??
BTW.. I have scanned the PC with Norton 2009 no issues there.

    Thank you

The slowdowns seem to be download related, rather than any problem with Vista itself. How is this computer connecting to the net, and how are any other computers which share this connection behaving?

    well.
Vista section was the only forum I thought to be relevant to post my issue, sorry if mis-posted.

There are no other PC connected to the network at this time, my PC just went down due to its motherboard failure. Thats the reason we decided to get another PC for my kid as she needs it for school anyway. Will take some time before I will get mine up and running.

The unit is hard wired to the modem, no router at present connected.
For sure it was better fresh out of the box, at least with page opening (online video playback was slow from start). Something I downloaded created the slow down it seams.

Uninstall Google desktop, Google indexing and Google toolbars.
    Uninstall Yahoo toolbar

    Go into Internet Explorer

    Tools>manage addons

and cut back on anything like

    Coolwebsearch
    Funwebproducts
    Mywebsearch
    Viewpoint

These last four are all spyware by the way

If you have BBC iplayer goto settings and untick monitor my downloads.

If you have installed cameras/printers/scanners/ ipods

set them all not to start with windows
    ditto msn

then tell us how it's doing.

My download speed is not that great only 1.30 mbps but that had not changed since I got this PC. And as I stated, it was better before my sorry ars started downloading codec as related.

hihi.. little time left before we head out.

    Browsing improved 100%
Watching online movies still in trouble, seems the PC cant buffer quick enough for clean playback but then even when the bar shows some of buffer it still stops and starts.

Any way to improve buffer/playback with vista?, maybe an app to download?

What sort of connection do you have to the router?

Straight patch from the PC to DSL Modem, no router at this time.

Perhaps my question was a bit vague.

Do you use usb or ethernet to connect to your ADSL modem?

Ethernet patch cable... sorry for misunderstanding.

OK so what happens if you monitor the ethernet traffic?

Either right click on the tray icon or go to network connections and choose LAN then choose status.

Would Network Connections ( vista is new to me ) be in Control Panel under Network and Sharing center? - :-o

Are we talking about local area connection when I can see how many bites are sent and received?
