I have been running a Acer PC for 8 months with Vista, without too many problems. However about 4 weeks ago my soundcard stopped working, after trying reinstalling drivers etc, I eventually reformatted PC and reinstalled Vista.

It all went back to normal, but now overnight the same as happened, I haven't installed any new updates for a week, apart from Norton 2008 updates.

When I look in device manager the following come up with warning signs: Realtek HD Audio (This device cannot start. (Code 10))
Sony X75F Monitor, both AMD Athlon 64 processors, HD Audio controller, PCI standard ISA bridge & UMbus Root Bus Enumererator (Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37))

I have downloaded and installed twice 1.96 HD Audio drivers from Realtek, after uninstalling audio completely, as well as just ininstalling it and letting Windows reinstall it on its own.

    Any advice?:cry

Much as I have dealt with Realtek, I have seen very few Vista problems with it.
Did you install any audio, video, CD/DVD burning, or any type of app that may take control of those devices around the time the problem started?

You might try reinstalling your chipset driver. That's just a guess, as the devices are recognized, just not starting.

I have not installed anything new program or updates for at least a week.

How would I go about my chipset driver, and where would I find the files needed?

    Post your Acer model number
    OR
Input the required info at Acer and that should lead you to all the drivers for your PC
    http://www.acerpanam.com/flex/acerdrivers/bin/drivers.html?CFID=819753&CFTOKEN=51535398
    OR
Use Everest to get a report of your system’s hardware, OS, and drivers. Upload the report as an attachment
    Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit

I have been on the Acer website as suggested, and downloaded the Realtek driver and the chipset, but the chipset wouldn't do anything as it setects that I am running Vista(which the PC came preinstalled with) as it is for XP.
I installed the Realtek driver and it had no effect.

Either my search skills are weak today, or something simple is eluding me. You have a nVidia MCP61S + MCP61P chipset, which uses either the nForce 410 or 430.
I'm not finding any of that at nVidia, with a good enough description to recomend for your board.
Set a restore point and give this driver a try: (it should cover you)
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/NVIDIA_nForce_Unified_Driver_Windows_Vista_d5973.html

If it installs, we will get to your audio.
I see you still have Vista Beta, you might want to upgrade and update. Might be part of the problem.
