I was wondering if Vista SP1 was worth a download for me? I'm a gamer I use my PC for college work but the primary purpose of this PC is for entertainment. I was eyeing up SP1 trying to see if it was a good thing for me. But from my experience with WIndows OSs it's never a good idea to rush in headlong. My two concerns with SP1 is this. 1.) Does it add support for full screen DOS programs via the NTVDM subsystem? and 2.) Does it increase compatibility with Window 9x era programs (does it improve the way Directx10 runs pre DX10 games and does it improve the functioning of compatibility mode?) These two things will determine if I download SP1 or pray for a SP2 release in a few years (probably will never coem due to the announcement of Windows 9...)

    Hi

    1. No as dos is and was by design limited on functionality in Vista, the move from XP onwards is to phase out DOS

    2. Yes it does add more compatability to older apps but more so to ones that are from the XP era, it's more the developers of older apps as in 9x ones that needed to update their software

But all in all I would install SP1 as it fixes a few major issues with RTM, network and USB tranfers speeds are two notables
