    Hi

Is this a retail or OEM (given with HP, Dell etc PC) version or some downloaded version?

Where are you downloading the SP from? Try the SP2 version from HERE (x64 version listed also in link)

If you get an error with the above please tell us it in full?

I will try the link but I have tried downloading SP2 from the Microsoft site and it would not install. It would not install from Windows update or downloading and installing manualy from the microsoft site. I have tried the five language version and the all language version. This is a Full retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit.

Well I didn't try the link give what I did do was give up trying to install SP1 and did a reinstall of the OS. Since this was a fresh install and,not many programs were installed, it seemed to be the but solution at the time. What I did find was some craziness with the update system of Vista. Seems that it downloads and installs a lot of other updates before installing the Service Pack, crazy, leaving the SP the last update. When it did this it would also install all other language packs offered by the update system hence not allowing the SP to be installed. What I did to find this out was craziness of my own but I removed all updates that were not security updates and tried to reinstall through Windows update, Ahh ha!!! Found the problem but to lazy to dig any deeper so I did the simple solution. I'm all about time and since I wasn't getting paid, wahla, fresh install. But wish I would have taken the time to discover the real problem. Oh well leave it for the next guy. Would have been menacing if I would have had $20,000 worth of software installed. I know who would install software without a working OS... Thanks guys for leading me along you rock. :zzz

    Hi

Cheers for the update and I agree as not much software installed already a new clean install was a good way to go, I just feel sometimes and its a random thought that we get good and bad installs, no main reasons why, maybe the disk had a bit of dust on it and a file was not copied correctlty etc
