    Hi

Yes could leave SP1 off your PC for the moment, until you have narrowed down what the cause of the issue is, and SP2 for Vista is not far off being released.

Do you have a 3rd party firewall application installed as some are known to block internet connection when you have updated Vista and for that matter any Windows versions, so could try SP1 again and this time disable your firewall to test its not the cause of the block to the internet, if it is then let us know what one your using as well as update it too latest version or try alternate, which we can suggest once we know this is the issue.

What type of error message did you get when trying to connect to the internet after the install of Vista SP1? as those errors may hold clues.

    Hi

May need to just re-allow your network connection through Bitdefender as the IP is likely your outgoing network, check that in Bitdefenders firewall settings that the network IP is allowed. At times delete it and then connect and re-allow at the popup.

I would check all firewalls (settings , updates and sp1 known compatibility issues) and then the drivers for Ethernet / wireless
can you communicate with the internal network (if you have one) or can you ping the modem?
but with every thing thats in sp1+ I would get it asap as far as i am considered no windows os is operating the way is ment to till after sp1 especially xp and vista
I had a similar problem with windows update in xp before sp1\2 and after messing with firewall and driver/s i was able to fix it
