VISTA SP2 refuses to instal

Grrr...tried at least 4 times to instal SP2 on my Vista Home Premium o/s but with no success!

Confirmed that I had SP1 installed and shut down all programs including my anti-virus but still -no go!

If worse comes to worse (every one hates this answer) you could clean install it. I do this with every Service pack windows releases and then add all my drivers software etc.
Doing this will almost guarantee a pleasant windows experience and keeps you in the habit of keeping things backed up for those unpleasing times

Hi

After doing what DomLuc mentions about giving your PC a spring clean, are you installing SP2 from Windows Update, if so try the full download of SP2.

Also when installing SP2 do you gain any messages and error codes as to why?

You have now confirmed in a different older thread that you have Automatic Updates in your Vista box turned OFF.
That's why you can't get SP2 - it's a shame you didn't say that at the start. I'm sure we would have said 'turn it back on'

But evidently I can install it as a standalone program. Therein lies my problem....inspite of what I've done - i.e. shut down anti virus program, closed all programs, installed new Windows Installer, etc. the download goes ok but the install won't finish!

Have you tried saving SP2 to CD/DVD/etc. on another machine, and then transferring?

Do you have IE 8 installed? From articles I've seen in newsletter SP2 won't be offered as an update unless you are running IE8.
I'm not sure about installing it if IE 8 is not on the computer because I haven't seen that mentioned.
