Vista Starter Firewall Woes

Hi There,

I recently had to get a new laptop for work and it came with vista starter installed. Previously I was on XP and I'm balking.... a lot.

However, my boss won't give me the go ahead to switch OSs. Annoying.

Anyway, the windows firewall is deactivated. When I try to activate all the options are greyed out (for security ironically). Doing some research it looks like gpedit.msc would be a place to start. Only this version of Vista (non) Starter doesn't have a gpedit.msc. As I live in Mexico the whole thing is in Spanish too. Not most useful but my Windows vocab is fairly good. Any ideas anyone? I'd quite like to turn the firewall back on one day or get a third party one compatible with Windows Vista Starter.

Hi Dom Luc. Thanks for the reply. There is indeed a Vista Starter edition. I know all too well as it has an annoying banner in the bottom right, constantly!

It came with Norton, but only a trial version. So I uninstalled that when I got it. I installed Avira but was having some compatibility issues. I've now got Moon as an AV (it is compatible with the vista starter) and sacked off the windows firewall completely (mainly due to frustration). So I downloaded Fortknox as third party firewall.

Thanks for your help though and if you have any thoughts on the above in terms of protection level, do let me know.
