It's finally here! Microsoft's consumer release of Windows Vista is only two weeks away. And my latest book, "Windows Vista Secrets," has just gone on sale to help you master the new operating system. My co-author, Paul Thurrott, and I have packed hundreds of Vista tricks into this labor of love. You can be the first to know the secrets of Vista by getting your copy today. In this introductory period, the best deal seems to be at Amazon, which is offering more than a 1/3 discount. —Brian Livingston, Editorial Director

Don't know how good it is, or how much will apply to the retail versions of Vista when they are released, but these guys are on the ball, usually. Bazza

PS: the links in blue won't work. Do a google search for the title of the book for best results. Baz

Be the first to know how to deal with the first waves of bugs. Help us make it to SP 1 and then others may enjoy Vista.

Sorry, don't mean to spoil it but I couldn't resist.:D

I'm gonna wait for Vista SP1 (maybe SP2) before I invest in Vista. ;)
Don't want to be on the leading edge of bug and driver fix.:D

But millions won't and will queue up in a week or so, to pay lots of $$$$ for the new OS.

Of course not. They were paying beta testers.

Well, if one submitted a bug they got RTM Ultimate, it wasn't promised beforehand. I certainly didn't get 'paid'. :)

Vista book has gone to #1 at Amazon.

#1 on Amazon.com's 'Movers & Shakers' list
When my new book, "Windows Vista Secrets," was announced on Jan. 18, it immediately zoomed to the top position on the "Movers & Shakers" list maintained by Amazon.com. This ranking system tracks those new books that are becoming best-sellers the fastest. Windows Vista is being released to consumers on Jan. 30. Just in time to prepare yourself for the new operating system, Paul Thurrott and I have packed into a single book the tricks you need to know. —Brian Livingston, Editorial Director

You misunderstood me. It was a poke at them releasing Vista early to businesses and such, them being the last people in the world to upgrade, and them being the most important people to need bug free products.

Consumers have typically been the rtm "beta" testers for quite some time. Why it was different this run, I don't know.

Whether or not you're already using Windows Vista, you're certain to face it on some PC in the near future. My new book with co-author Paul Thurrott, Windows Vista Secrets, acts as your guide. Paul and I have been heartened by the compliments we've received from newbies and power users alike. The work was recently rated No. 1 out of 18 Vista books by Dave's Listmania at Amazon.com. And reviewer David L. Brueck says, "It's a quick, easily understood read (took me only a few days) that will answer all but the deepest level questions that you might have and will help you customize Vista to meet your immediate needs." Check it out for yourself. —Brian Livingston, Editorial Director

My new book, Windows Vista Secrets, with co-author Paul Thurrott of the SuperSite for Windows, is selling well — but our publisher, John Wiley & Sons, isn't using the demand to keep the price high. Instead, the publishing house has made a deal with Amazon.com to increase the book's retail discount to a whopping 40%. (It was previously in the 30s.) Whether you're already using Vista, or you're starting to think about it, our labor of love will help you get the most out of the new operating system. Chapter 1; Buy Windows XP

Its easier to use, has less confusing versions, better driver support and many more stable features. Only reason you probably have it is because you bought a new computer. Sorry about that.

Chapter 2; Using Vista
It has pretty pictures. Click the pretty pictures. Now your doing stuff.

Thanks for buying Vista Secrets, now you know all of the secrets.

There's nothing really mysterious about Vista if you're familiar with XP, at least at my level of noobness. I bought Karp's XP Annoyances and 'in a nutshell' way back when and I've hardly used them to look something up. I'm not saying it's a bad book but I'd say I wasted the money though I never read the whole thing. I've learned way more from sites like this and Google.

Gotta disagree with you about Karp's XP Annoyances.
I purchased my copy in July 2005 and still check out things 2-3 times per week.
Maybe I'm a slow learner, but my copy is dogeared and I have an Excel index of over 100 entries of interest to me, pasted in the inside front cover.
I've learnt, and continue to learn, at MG, but wouldn't be without this book.

I will order Vista Annoyances when it comes out as I will have Vista by then. Bazza
