I have a HP Pc running Windows Vista build 6002. i am having issues with the registry, backup/restore, windows installer and email links not working. I have tried various forum support sites and even Microsoft support to no avail. I'm tired of it and wonder if upgrading to Windows 7 Pro will solve any problems. Specifially, will my registry and other windows software problems follow me to my new setup? What specific steps can I follow to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro to make this successful?

Mr Gates, stop making software that we need to support ourselves and get it right the first time.

    Any advice would be appreciated.:confused

Upgrading an already faulty OS will almost certainly lead you to greater problems somewhere along the line.

A clean install of W7 (or the original Vista) will be the best, and possibly fastest, option to get a usable OS again.

Make sure your data and any licenses required are backed up and tested before you start afresh. Check that your current PC and it's BIOS are fully W7 compatible too ;)
