Hey guys. I'm looking for a FW and a good AV. I was using AVG 9 free edition, but I unistalled before runining my scans this month and I am can't seem to get it loaded again. I tried the newer AVG 11 but it i saying my windows isn't supported. VISTA ULTIMATE 64-bit. I tried running as admin and everything. Should I try turrning off SAS and windows defender??? Also I need a FW, tried 3 different ones for the malware sticky on protection. Comodo, Sypgate, and one other... and none of them would install. Any help would be great. Vista Ultimate 64

    Hi

Try PCtools FW as it works in 64bit fine, had it installed on a Vista 64bit PC, but if you have a router that has NAT/SPI and you know exactly whats on your PC then the Windows firewall will suffice, only issue is outgoing traffic, but thats where knowing whats on your PC comes in.

ZoneAlarm for a firewall has become for me a bit bloated and not in keeping with the original great ZA firewall, but thats me, try it you may like it.

As for AV then Avast I use on my main desktop as in the one I'm typing this from, but I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my netbook and laptop as its superb, so worth a look and ignore the "I hate microsoft folk" as this is a great AV with good reviews from security pros.

I always forget to mention MSE !! :-o !! it is, as David (forum Ninjah :-D) says, an excellent little tool, I also have it on my Duaghters Laptop along with MBAM (free), and I have not had to do any infection removals on that machine ;).

Comodo Internet Security (AV and firewall) works great, it's what I've been using for years (and it supports 64 bit Windows Vista and Windows 7). Just be sure to choose the 64 bit download. I personally don't install the GeekBuddy portion, and disable the Sandbox feature.

It's the last download on this page: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/free-download.html

Thanks to everyone that replied. I finally got the right Comodo installed, it wasn't installing right because The file I downloaded was corrupt or something. I deleted, dLed again and it's great not, as for the AV I finally got AVG back installed, even got an upgrade to AVG 10.

    mbam detecting Comodo as Malware??

I'm using Comodo as a FW, and after I got it installed, I ran Mbam last night and it is detecting Comodo as malware. Is this a false report? I DL'ed Comodo from this site and I did not install any toolbar option or anything.

Re: mbam detecting Comodo as Malware??

This will be a False possitive, you just need to put it into Mbam's safe/ignore list, ALL downloads from MG's are SAFE and tested regulary.

Just as a side not to those who have read this thread, Comodo is working and it does have some spiffy features, I am almost certain though it added about 8-12 seconds to my startup time though, Maybe 6 sec. :cry :cry
