Vista update problems

I have a problem with Windows update. I've check the other threads and I haven't seen anything similar.

My problem is once I updated Vista then after every single day whenever I log on and off it says the computer is updating.

Also when I try to update Vista it never finishes checking for updates.

If you start Windows Update and choose View Update History from the list on the left do you see any errors or updates that have not completed?

 

I failed
Update for Windows Vista (KB973687).

 

Was the failure recent? If it was try downloading that update here http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=19639 and see if it succeeds.

 

The window update standalone installer doesn't work. It never stops searching for updates.

See if resetting the Windows Update Components helps. I would create a restore point before you do this.
