I have windows XP PRO and i am going to be upgrading to Windows Vista Ultimate via a upgrade CD, i currently have my hard drives in a RAID 0 Array and i am wondering will i have to do anything special when i install vista, will i have to reinstallmy raid drivers or will i need to reformat?

    Hi Sniper

Yes your best to have updated Raid drivers ready to add at the install stage, you now do not need them to be on floppy, the driver files can be on USB pen drives, CD, DVD as Vista will recognise those locations for driver installs.

One thing to note about the Upgrade versions are that they have sadly removed the option to clean install directly with an upgrade DVD ( meaning you cannot boot to the upgrade DVD and clean install ), as you could do with all the older windows versions if you had a qualifying previous OS version to pop in the drive, Now a version of windows needs to be installed already and the Vista installer run from within the windows GUI, then at the installer menus from Vista you can then clean format and install from their or go ahead with the upgrade from XP > Vista ( never touch that option myself, even to it went well on 4 occasions when I was asked to do this for a test senario )

BUT then Upgrade does mean just that "to upgrade" not clean install, kicker is you can once at the installer clean upgrade.

Yes their is a workaround to this but you still ahve to install Vista twice! using that method.

I would choose the clean install option ( backup all your data before hand ) as its better than leaving any legacy files and none compatible drivers and software on the PC, do also run the Upgrade Advisor software to double check any potential issues you may have as it will give you some idea of what software/drivers are not compatible
