Is Windows Vista worth the upgrade? Or is it causing more problems than you want?:major

I have no issues with Vista as a whole, yes their are some thing in the OP I would have like to have seen added or changed, ie.

Fully bidirectional easy to use Firewall with GUI menus, like ZA for instance as creating rules for outgoing packet traffic is not to everyones knowledge.

WinFS, plus a few other items like, built in download manager, Calendar have inbuilt way to add your countries public holidays, after all whats a calendar used for in part? plus numerious other things, but at some point a developer has got to say hey enough is enough we have to ship, Vista shipped late anyhow due to pressures from other companies who compained about certain features and ho ha over antitrust.

Most of the issues are due to users not researching their hardware compatability and rushing in, then their are the slow 3rd party companies who have been dire in upgrading their drivers or software to work with this new OS ( again same happend for XP ) some companies will not be updatingtheir software to be fully compatible, Adobe have already stated this http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/adobe_products_and_windows_vista.pdf forcing many users who go Vista to also purchase new adobe apps and those are not cheap.

But it works great for me and I have fully migrated to Vista, which is why I voted no issues, as the os and my hardware work ok, 3rd party software is not an OS issue.

i tried the upgrade route with a illegal copy of vista-big mistake... don't try it-lol I just wanted to see what it was like.
the OS runs best with a clean install with a legit copy- don't laugh

IMO it's worth it, i like it... it's a little dumbed down, but it's slick.
As far as problems go I haven't really had any other than not being able to find drivers for my network card, and having to run my cable modem usb, but its a old generic old card, and i plan on upgrading soon-everything else works fine...

oh wait forgot Alcohol 120% doesn't work, but i am sure there working on it, also I can't get ActiveX to work In IE7 for the life of me, so I switched to firefox, and all is good ( i think i like firefox better anyway- those addons/themes rule)

overall I like it-haven't had too many problems...

My install went just fine. I knew there was going to be a compatiblilty issue with my webcam and printer. There was also a couple of programs that had a difficult time running but since have been updated and are fine. My antivirus app still had another 7 months left before the vista install on the subscript and read there was a patch to help with vista. Unfortunatley they didn't specify which vers. of the program you needed for the patch to work. Even though my antivirus was up to date, they had since come out with a later version maybe a month or two after i installed mine, so of course was no longer able to install onto vista. Now i'm using a freebie and have had no trouble at all. The company has since released their vista 32-bit drivers for my webcam so all's good there. My printer is another story, it's probably 3 years old and well out of date according to today's standards, however from what i've been reading they don't plan on making drivers for this printer which is fine because i was going to get a new one anyway and this one will go to my other pc running xp. Other then that, i like it very much. It runs well and I also enjoy the new look and features that are available. I think it's pretty cool

I said a few bugs but really nothing to gripe too much about. I still have to dual boot for my peripherals though I doubt HP will rewrite their SW for older periphs. I'm still running an unactivated RTM to just get more knowledge and to give me time to save up for it, almost $500 CDN for ultimate. Ugh!

I had a play with the demonstration widescreen Compaq in PC world.

Pity they didn't set it up properly so the screen was distorted. The clock for instance was oval not circular.

OK so I tried to set it up properly Right click on the desktop select properties - since Win95.
No bud they have changed the name and I had a decidedly oval experience with Nvidia bullsh..t without straightening out the clock. Eventually found microsoft had renamed properties something fancy and did it.

In the run dialog msconfig, dxdiag still work but both have less information and capabilities than formerly. Msinfo is not present.

General impression Windows Xp replaced the 'oneclick' option with the '2/3 click' option. Vista now has the '5 click option' WOW.

XP is measurably slower than Win2000 at every task I have measured it at I wonder where Vista will come?

Its still their StudioT, under Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Performance Information and Tools > Click the Advanced Tools on the left menu bar and its listed as View advanced system details in System Information

or in the Start Search box type msinfo32 and hit enter.

Not the best systems to judge Vista on in a poorly setup PC World PC, as they really dont know how to set a PC up like your good self and myself would.
