32bit Vista Home Premium SP1 - the system is running fine, no malware, I've already run general maintenance (CCleaner, defrag, etc), but when I drag something to the Recycle Bin, it stays highlighted on the desktop for up to a minute. If I right click it and select "Delete", the deleted item disappears almost instantly as it should. If I double click the Recycle Bin to see what's in there, there's a minute lag. So- what's up with the Recycle Bin lag? Any thoughts?
    :confused

    Thanks!

    Hi dlb

Thoughts are update the GPU driver and disable the antivrius software to check its not causing a small lag, what are the security apps on this PC?

I installed a new NVidia video card (new to the PC owner, not a 'brand new' card) and therefore installed the latest drivers directly from the NVidia web site. There are NO security apps on the PC (not a good thing, I know). This lag only appears when using drag-n-drop to delete something, if I reight click and use "Delete", it goes nice and quick as it should. It's odd . . . HOWEVER - after spending some more time on this PC, I found a few other things that lag for no apparent reason (I don't remember what they are at this moment; I'm off work and drinking beer LOL but they were regular things you'd do in Explorer as you're fartin' around in Windows; most things work fine, some things have a 60-90 sec lag). The PCs owner did not want to "waste any time" figuring this out, and told me to not work on it. Strange he would would say "don't waste time on it" when this lag is a huge waste of time when using Windows. If I had to wait at least a minute every time I dragged something to the Recycle Bin, I'd be a bit bent, but I guess since he has to pay for my time, and his personal time doesn't cost him anything...... whatever..... I have a feeling I'll be reviving this thread in a week or so after the PCs owner realizes that he is, indeed, wasting time. Like when people try to argue in favor of dial-up internet; their main argument is that it's only $10 a month. My comeback is "but it's so slow that over half your online time is wasted waiting for pages to open before you can even read what's on it.... what's your time worth? if every page opened instantly, just imagine how much you'd get done when online. isn't that worth at least $30-$40 a month?"

:-o Uh oh :innocent I'm rambling . . . too much beer already!!! Tomorrow is my ONLY day off every week, so I start drinking early roflmao

Thanks (as always) for the input Halo, like I said, I'll probably revive this thread in a week or so when the PCs owner has had enough of the lag.....

Then, I'd definitely right click and choose Delete. Why use drag-n-drop if it's slower?

Well, duh. But that's not really the point. The point is that the PC is not functioning as it should. There's some other additional situations where this lag shows up, it's not only when deleting something. Ignoring an issue and using a 'work around' doesn't fix the problem, and not fixing the problem and ignoring it can lead to the problem getting worse, or the problem spreading, or other new problems cropping up. It's like the old joke: a man goes to the doctor and says "hey doc, it hurts when I move my arm like this" and the doctor replies "then don't move your arm like that".
    ;)
