I got a Compacq Paresario CQ60 notebook, as a gift for my birthday, but every time I try to install XP I get this error message on the blue screen.

"a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart you computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
check for viruses on your computer. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

    Technical information:
    ***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xc0000034,0x00000000, x00000000)"

Any ideas on what to do now?

Well, it's not as easy as that to get XP to run on a Vista machine.;) Sounds like you're missing a SATA driver for starters and perhaps there are no further XP drivers for chipset, sound etc. either for your machine. You should research the driver issue first before attempting to install XP as many hardware makers are not even providing XP drivers anymore,

It's quite an odyssey IMO, to get XP onto a Vista system but if you're really determined, then google dual booting. At least you'll get an idea of what you're up against. Oh, here's the Microsoft blurb on that error you got. Good luck.
