A Friend of mine has run into a problem with Windows Vista. Anytime he tries to view a jpg file, he gets a message "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working". In the pop up window, there are two options: 1) Check online for a solution and restart. 2) Restart program. This fails to work nor does it come up with any solutions. I can click START/All Programs/Accessories/Windows Explorer and explorer runs perfectly good. I can go anywhere on the system and start any program. However when I click on a jpg file, I get the explorer error message. I can go into Microsoft Office and view jpg's with no problem. I've run just about every known anti-spyware, and malware program available. I've run Avast, AVG and Norton Anti Virus programs. Not one of them find any malicious programs, viruses, Trojans etc. This problem occurs every time you click on a jpg file without exception. I've tried everything I know to resolve this problem as well as a few others that have been mentioned with no success. I'm not all that good with Vista. I absolutely hate the program. If this can't be resolved, we'll have to consider removing Vista and installing XP. (What a job that will be).

When I view the problem details, this what I get.

    Problem Signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: Explorer.EXE

    OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.2

I should also mention that I've used 1-Click Maintenance, ATF, CC Cleaner, Combofix as well as a few other programs that clean and/or repair the registry. None have helped. System Restore has failed to correct this problem. The problem started about two weeks ago so I tried a restore point from approximately a month ago. Still no luck. Somehow, I think I'm barking up the wrong tree with all these programs I've run. This is the only problem he has with Vista........so far.

Has anyone run into this problem? Can anyone help? :confused

    Thanks in advance

    Rob

HI there and welcome to the forums, i know you have stated that you have already ran several virus and malware scans but if things aren't done in a specific order you end up fighting a losing battle, if you click on this link http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=208809 and follow all the instructions to the book then i think you'll find yourself smiling again, it's written by the finest malware fighter on the web "Chaslang" after you do everything that is required, repost with the required logs into the malware forum, and then be patient and don't bump as the malware fighters will get round to you !

    Hope this helps ! :)
