Vista Windows Update Not Working

Fixing issues here on my mother's computer, it seems that Windows Update has consistently failed to update the computer since she purchased it.

When opening the Windows Update window, it displays 31 new updates, when you select to download the updates however, nothing happens.

The window says it is downloading updates, but never downloads anything (see attached).

I've tried turning both the antivirus software and firewall software off, I've even reinstalled them (ESET 4.0), to no avail.


I have another thread in the malware section (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=185916), but this problem seems to be unrelated, it has been ongoing since the purchase of the computer last year.

 

Problem solved. It required deleting the list of previously downloaded updates with some command prompt wizardry

It threw up an error: 8007000b, and the microsoft help was actually helpful :O
