Hi Everyone, new member here with an annoying problem.
Recently purchased an XPS630i from Dell in September and already have a problem!
When I try and shut down the computer, it goes through the normal procedures ( telling me its shutting down with the Vista background etc) Then the moniter switches off but the computer stays on. Keyboard is responsive during this time as I can press capslock and the light comes on and off. Only way to switch it off is to press/hold the power button which is fine but pretty lame considering it's a new PC etc.

Been in contact with Dell and have found out it's a software problem but Dell want me to call some premium number and charge me for them sorting it out!!

Anyobdy else with this problem and have any solutions?
Any info will be very much appreciated

    Thanks

I'm experiencing similar problems during shutdown. Often it never gets past the 'Shutting Down' screen and I have to resort to powering off using the on/off button. I appear to be getting some conflicts using Torrent clients, which may or may not be related to this problem. I had Utorrent installed initially, unistalled it and tried BitComet to see if it was a problem particular to UTorrent... it appears to be the same with BitComet. The essential problem is that the program cannot be stopped... even using Task Manager and trying to stop the Process does not work... the only option is to re-boot, which of course cant be done because it wont shutdown. I know there have been similar problems posted elsewhere about Vista-Torrent compatability issues but no responses that appear to satisfactorily resolve it... and of course for some users, there are no issues at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi

Just a thought as you have Vista and by default the Start > and what looks like the Off Button is in fact Hibernation/Sleep, if its colour is orange, if its red then that is PC off. Just thinking this is the case as you still have a live keyboard, your button is set to Sleep.

As Vista is fairly customisable you can change the Off Button to actually turn off the PC, to do this you need to go to Start > Control Panel > System and Maintanence > Power Options > under which ever power plan you have chosen click Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings then in the list click the + next to Power Buttons and Lid then Click the + next to Start Menu Power Button and Click the text next to setting and in the dropdown choose Shutdown (other is Sleep which is hibernation)

Now your Start > Off Buton should be Red in colour and shut your PC down fully.

Or you might be running something like Zone Alarm and that is conflicting with the Bitorrent software ... if so, remove Zone Alarm and install Comodo instead.
