    Good afternoon all :)

I am trying to update my Vista x64 home premium edition to SP1. But i see nothing to download in my "Windows Update" apart from 2 office 2007 updates.

So i tried downloading Windows6.0-KB936330-X64-wave0.exe. I follow instructions and disable anti-virus software while installing. It all goes through fine reboots and it fails once step 2 of 3 is 100% So i assume the 3rd step is not initializing and BSODs. Then i get BSOD everytime the green bar for windows loading shows up for 1-2 seconds (even when loading safe mode).

I can get back to windows using repair and restoring a system restore point.

Anyone else have trouble upgrading their vista 64 home premium?

    Thanks in advance

    Fegis

Edit/ i should really give my system specs too lol:

    Q6600
    4 x 1gb GSkill Ram
    2 x Samsung Spinpoint 500gb HD in raid 0
    Abit IP35 Pro

I havent upgraded the bios on my motherboard as i dont really wanna mess it up and left with a dud machine.

can you go to windows updates/ view update history.

Find the failed update and double click on it.

This should give you an error code like 80070643.

If you can do this could you post the error code you are getting.

    Hi WildWolf,

thanks for the fast reply! I have clicked view update history and it does not show anything about a failed Vista SP1.

ps. I tried to install SP1 via the 700mb dl for X64. the SP1 update does not show up when i do "check for updates" weird? I run English version of Vista 64bit home premium.

    Thanks again

From my reading, I've learned that SP1 for Vista isn't offered to everyone. Why? Because some hardware issues aren't fixed. I suspect when your computer is scanned, something isn't quite ready yet. You will be offered SP1 when it is ready for your computer.

fair enough :) i guess that makes sense... just seems a pain that i have a decent machine but unable to apply a patch that everyone else has lol. Thanks again!

    Fegis!
