   as long as you have the XP cd and format your hard drive again, it wont be a problem

   Would seem a bit of a waste if you buy Vista then re-install XP? IF you install and use Vista with an open mind and dont listen to all the rumours and gripes from others, give it a few weeks to get used to the slightly different Start menu and Control Panel layout and I think you may just like it....
   
   As an alternative you could dual boot both Vista and XP.
