How is this new Vista gonna work?
I ordered it and i have some question.

When i install it, will it delete everything on my computer and i start with a clean slate?
What programs will work and wont work regarding firewall, spyware and anti-virus?

That is all that comes to mind right now, but ill probably have more thats why i made this thread. Thanks for any info.

Vista works like any other OS, but like all new things has limitations at present with hardware drivers and various software compatabilities until 3rd party developers catch up.

You can dependent on ordered version do an update install which should keep all your settings and software intact ( appart from none compatible software, so its advisable to run the Vista Update Advisor tool ) this tool will alert you to any potential areas of concern, like hardware or software issues, in which you may need to hunt down updated drivers from the hardware makers before installing Vista. I do hope you have checked your current hardware specs to see if they will handle Vista? the tool below will help in part to tell you this info.

or better and the prefered option by many is to clean install and wipe the slate clean, leaves less old legacy XP files on the pc, you can use the Migrate ( easy transfer tool ) tool to help with backing up some files and settings from XP.

    AVs that I know work
    AVG
    AVAST
    Norton Enterprise
    McAfee 9 Enterprise
    KAV ( latest version )

    Firewalls
    Jetco Personal Firewall

    AntiSpyware
    A2
    Ad-Aware
    Spywareblaster
    Spybot S&D

many do need to be installed in elevated admin mode to work properly until updates are released as they trip UAC alerts at present.

By default, if you do a "Clean Install" with Vista, your old files will be moved to a "windows.old" directory, and you will effectively have a clean state. Please note that 1.) This does not work if you choose to manually format the Hard drive or delete the partion, and that 2.) The Windows.old thing does not always actually happen, eve if you don't format, so you should probably manually back up at least the important stuff if you do it this way.

To do a clean install, either boot from the DVD or put your disk in at a windows desktops (if you have an upgrade DVD, then, in general, you will need to do the installation from a Windows XP desktop, although if you can't get to the desktop we can give you work-arounds), choose "custom install (advanced)", and follow the prompts to install.
