    long story short.
    son gave me computer
said he wiped hard drive of everything
    started it up
get to welcome screen and wants password
anyway to get around this and into windows to make recovery discs (for future use) and use the computer? just curious, if not I'll wait for a few hours when he gets home from work and get the password. windows VISTA home premium on a e-machine.

gotta take the dog for his morning post office ride,
    be back later.

    Hi

By wiped did he mean that he reset the PC back to factory default install? but weirdly half the time if it is a factory install, just hit enter at the password bit (or use the word password) as it may not be set, if there is a password, you'll have to wait for him to get home for the password I'm afraid, then once into Windows you can turn it off or set a new one.

okay,,,,,,back from the dog outing........he gets really upset if there isn't one.
got ahold of son and got the password. I thought he had restored system to factory settings, but no. I am not familiar with Vista. This is a cheap e-machine. Thought I could make a recovery cd (dvd) of the system (because he never did) to restore it to factory settings. In XP I know how to get to that choice but I can't seem to find a way in Vista, if you understand me. Can I even do that? I mean, now I can use the computer but it has all his stuff on it and all I want to do is completely return it to factory settings with a recovery set of disc's and start all over.

    thank you halo
    got it figured out
found out where the recovery console is and I'll wipe it all out tomorrow morning once I get the stove fired up out in the workshop
he said he was going to do it, but evidently not
not used to something new like this
