When it is released this up and coming holiday season, will I be able to switch with ease with the setups I already have?Or does it require a system with DDR2,PCI-E, and better processors(64bit)?

going to be mass rumours abound over the coming months on when Vista will be released.. believe NONE until its actually released to RTM, which will give better idea of release date, in which no doubt like XP there will be a downloadable scanner to test your PC and software out for compatibility ( Upgrade Advisor ) , if you had the Vista CTPs then it already scans for issues as part of the install process.

I'd say your looking good with those spec's BBO, doesnt need a 64bit CPU as two versions are available 64bit and 32bit(x86), no to DDR2 and PCI-E, but some cavets are to that one as Vista will need a specific GFX card driver model version to run Aero ( the Glass look GUI ).

Further delving into this specs issue and "Will my PC run Vista" as its going to be a hot topic in the comming months as Vista's release gets ever closer :)

Vista does have an inbuilt tool called Winsat at present which checks to see if a PCs performance and hardware is upto running Vista ok ( two of us on MGs have tested this with XP and while it took awile to get the right command syntax its results are not clear or more accuratly dont tell you if your PC will run Vista ), now this app I gather will be released as a tool in the future for users to check there own PC out for compatability, like the XP Upgrade Advisor tool in which you download run and it gives you an idea how well your PC will run the OS.

When is it to be released.. dont ask as I dont know as the current one is not 100% acurate as yet and still needs work.
