OK, I think this is a graphics related issue - basically almost everytime I turn PC on, after a few minutes I'll get a lot of strange coloured lines appear on the screen and then it'll flash black for a few seconds, sometimes the screen will go into power saving mode for 20 seconds or so.

Tried another monitor, reinstalled Windows a few times and tried different graphics drivers each time, this time I've tried the original cd that came with the card (6600GT) and so far it hasn't happened but I'm certain it'll happen.

I think I can rule out graphics, although it could be the graphics overheating (despite the fact it's running at about 43c which is fine).

Could it be the chipset, motherboard?

Any input would be great :)

Do you have another GFX card to test with in your PC McA, as the 3 times in work we have had the display go into "powersave mode" the GFX card has been bad!!!

So testing another card will rule out, motherboard etc

Cold well be heat.. as our ambient room temps are higher at present... could observe and when it happens again, test with spare or borrowed card?

Yeh I've noticed it happened once it got hotter, but I'll give another gfx a go when I get a spare minute, got such a hectic weekend ahead so will have to be monday - keep you informed :)

Hate to ask the obvious but did you use DriveCleaner Pro each time and completely remove all traces of the old drivers (following this apps methodology) scrubbing the reg etc, etc. But it's a fair thought that it maybe the mobo chipset drivers as the info will be transmitted via these to the GPU (north and or south bridge). Check out the mobo's site and assess the date of the chipset drivers relative to the last time you updated them. Another thought is to use a good Registry scrubber, I like Lexun RegScrupXP myself and this will just make sure:

To remove the previous chipset drivers I would consider YourUninstaler 2006! and set the options to medium cleaning:

If prob still persists see if you can RMA that card. Hope this helps.

Just an addition before you touch "chipset" drivers ensure you generate a MS "Restore Point" in case things go pear shaped.
