VMM32.VXD file in Recycle bin- how to retrieve?

Here are brief specs on my PC- let me know if I left anything out:

Compaq 900 Mhz AMD Athlon
256 Meg memory
Windows Me



OK, I'm proving my PC illiteracy more each day. I thought I was having problems with a virus or a strange program- I put the VMM32.VXD file into the recycle bin as it looked like the one that was affected.

Everything was fine, UNTIL I went to restart the PC, and now it will not reboot- it says "the following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD" then it says "Type the name of the WIndows loader (e.g., C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD).

Now I'm stuck. I tried restarting in safe mode, but no luck.

What do I need to do to get this file back?? This PC came with all software "preloaded" so I do not have any of the original system disks. I do have the "recovery CD", but I'm not real excited about reformatting the harddrive, and I can't seem to get it to access a legit restore point.

I promise I won't delete or recycle any files from now on until I'm 100% sure what they are.

I need to make it clear that I am not able to get the system to boot up without the vmm32.vxd file- so I'm trying to get the file back from the recycle bin via the DOS prompt (the only way I am able to access any of the files on this PC).

What I need to know is this: How do you find the specific path to a file that's in the recycle bin???? I think if I could find the correct pathname to this file, I could enter it in DOS and (hopefully) it would boot windows, so then I could restore the file to its correct location.

Anyone??
