    Hi all,

I have been getting calls from my family to go around and fix their computers, only to get there and find the tiniest problem.

So I have been trying to get like tightvnc, realvnc ultravnc... any remote assistance program to work properly so I don't have to travel like 20 minutes for one click of a mouse button.

I have got realvnc and tightvnc both working at home in my network perfect, but I just can't get it to work over internet..

I have forwarded all the ports that I need to, disabled all firewalls I have and still can't get it working...

My sisters house has a netcomm nb6plus4 as do I. I am running windows 7 and Xp pro one my 2 pc's. My sister has Vista 64-bit, XP Home and Windows 7 on her 3 pc's..

I have tried just about everything but can't really find much help in other places and I have never had any trouble getting help from anyone here..

Sorry if this is in the wrong section as well...

    Thank You all..

I use TeamViewer, give it a try, seems to just work straight out of the box.

    Thanks heaps for the replies!

Just a question about the reverse vnc. Will I have to open a port up on my computer say example 5900 so it know what computer it is connecting to??

So say my ip was 01.123.456.789 and my port was 5900.. would they have to put in 01.123.456.789:5900 or :0.??

Don't take this the wrong way, but wouldn't me having to open a port just ruin bring me back to the same problem of it not connecting in the first place?
Once again I am not trying to offend you just a theory.

    Thanks Heaps

When you config the reverse VNC SC you'll supply the public IP address.
If your not static you'll need a service like freeip or open dns (some routers support dy-dns or like service too) to resolve a name to your current IP. If that is to difficult you can have them run it and you'll have to provide them with your current IP from whatsmyip.

Giving them the option to remote to you - reverse VNC they don't have to mess with the router & ports - which they probably couldnt figure out anyways, thats why they call you, right? That is probably why it is not working over the Internet, the family your helping has not opened the port & set forwarding - VNC SC fixes that.

You would have to forward port 5900 to you PC that is listening for the connection. It is easy with a static private IP & a custom configured VNC SC.

If not try some of the alts like Teamviewer or Zolved.
Or maybe try Gbridge - its more than just remote.

I don't have a static ip as it changes everyday pretty much, how do I use this dydns or no-ip. I am looking but can not figure it out, its weird as..

    Thanks for the reply.

    Hey all.

I have figured out the dyndns or changeip. I have set it in my router and everything and got the little app running that updates it all.

Still no luck.. I have opened all the ports and set my internal ip address as static like I have been told to do. I still can't get it to work.

Those programs like zolved and mikogo, are they like teamviewer at all?
If they are the same sort of thing, are they laggy like teamviewer??

    Thanks for all ur help..

I believe they both use some variation of VNC, they just act as a go between to help connect you and the client.

    Ok once more...
    Download : http://www.uvnc.com/custom.zip
    Unzip
    Edit the helpdesk.txt
You can change / remove the other info for secure connct, etc
    Save the file
Zip it under a new name
Open the UltraVNC SC Creator tool and login:
    Userid: foo
    Password:foobar

Download the exe and give it to your friends.
When they call you run: vncviewer -listen
Have them run the exe and click connect.

If you have the ip updated via that client running in your system tray it should resolve to your router (public IP)
Your router will hear a knock on the door requesting entrance on port 5900.
Look at the guest list (port forwarding) and say "oh traffic on port 5900, right this way sir" and forward it to your local IP that you put in the router & have statically assigned to your PC. Assuming you have the port forwarded correctly.

    Hope that helps.

PS the laggy remote may be an issue with the speed of the connections or the general crappyness of the system your connecting to.. there are a lot of factors.

Few of the links above provide download of UVNC SC that is customized by a specific service.

The configuration file include info that is a relevant to others.

Like a support service Tel., and Network IPs configuration that would Not match the one used by others.

So who ever wants to try be careful unless it can be reconfigured to match your system it Not advisable to try it.

    That is why I said
The file is a template. So I don't see why it is
Its harmless. I don't make a habit of posting 'harmful' info here.

You are assuming that every one that reads the posts is as knowledgeable as you are.

Whenever you post you must think about the whole gamut of readers.

In a case like this I would either explain what need to be done to text file in the SC package or not provide it at all.

While it was viewed more than 200 times, there is only 5 people that actively posted this thread.

No point to post on the Internet if you do not think about all the people that read, but are shy (or less knowledgeable) and thus are Not actively participating. :-o

Posting on forums like this the is about helping others, rather than just showing of how smart we are. ;)

I read many fourms. I guess every post should have a disclaimer that using the info posted is at your own risk if you don't understand it. If you followed the post the links I posted went to the websites to read the whole article / descriptions of the tools I suggested. Why should I repost the website, when I can link to it? (Hyperlinking was the basis of the net)

I am not posting my signature with all my certs to prove I am smart I am just trying to help a brother out. I like to know what part of my posts are 1337ist.
