I believe there is a reasonably cheap USB plug in that uses your fingerprint as a log in method.
My Toshiba Tecra A7 laptop has a fingerprint sensor built in.
You have to train it to recognise your fingerprint. You can build up a log in record of 1 or more fingerprints.

I have set mine up to recognise one finger on my right hand as sensor is on the lower right hand side below the keyboard. It works most of the time if I take it slowly.

As an alternative I can always log on using a normal password.
Don't know about voice technology though.

I believe more and more laptops (in particular) will use fingerprint logging on.

Some google links. Also try "biometric log on", or similar phrase, for more hits. Bazza

Voice Verification - wowzers. That's gotta be expensive.

You can use USB "Tokens" to log on to a Windows machine. However, instaling the system does introduce a potential flaw in the system, whereby one could crack the password using another computer acting as a mass storage device.

Right now fingerprint analysis on laptops is pretty poor at best. I've seen a couple that are completely useless - if *anyone* puts their finger on it, it logs you in. Even after weeks for "training". I think it's a ploy to make people think their laptops are more secure, when really all it is is a glorified button.

I think one of the most practical solutions at the moment is using swipe-cards for passwords. The hardware is (reasonabley) cheap, and the software can be next to free.

No weeks of training with the Toshiba. Just log your same finger 5 times, one after the other, to get, as near as possible, identical reads. Once it is happy with the 5 reads it stores the results in a password protected file. (or fingerprint protected file).:D

When you logon with your fingerprint, it compares your logon fingerprint with the stored file fingerprint.

Mine works most of the time if I pass my finger over the sensor slowly (as they tell you to).

If I get a bad read, first time, it never accepts subsequent attempts and you have to login using your password. Bazza
