    How you doing there......

6 months ago I purchased a new PC with Vista Home Premium, and since have been experiencing a number of different small problems.

Multiple pages opening for after clicking on IE....pages freezing & unable to close them..........and recently after installing Excel got a pop up saying ' Corruption Installation Database ' ( to be fair....don't know if this is anything to do with Vista )

Also at times......loading IE can be painfully slow. For sure I know I am not infected with anything as Steganos IS 2009, Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner are installed and all run reguarily.

It got to the stage yesterday where I decided to restore to factory settings & start all over again. Everything is as it should be now, but am I in for more of the same further down the line?

Also has anyone else experienced problems after installing Microsoft Office?

    Cheers in advance..............................:cool

Hi, and welcome to the forum. So, yesterday, you formatted your drive/paritition C and resinstalled Windows and all the original software that was installed on the computer when new, from a Restore partition or a DVD you had burned from the Restore partition. Is that right?

Manufacturers usually install a lot of proprietary software. For example, when I bought my Compaq notebook PC back in July 2007, it had a lot of HP software on it that I did not really need. I removed most of it. I also removed the Norton anti-virus software (a 60 day trial version), since I prefer to use one of the free ones such as AVG, Avast, Avira, etc. for personal use.

So, removing some of the stuff the manufacturer installed that you don't need could be one step which might improve performance, especially if any of those applications automatically launch during startup and run in the background. You might download PC De-Crapifier 1.91 and use it to help in this process.

What make and model is your computer? How much RAM?

Did your restore take you back to Service Pack (SP) 1 or pre-SP1? Did you install SP2 after your restore?

What version of IE do you have, 7 or 8? I've been using Firefox on my Compaq notebook PC, with Vista Home Premium and it runs well. But, IE is not slow for me if I use it.

What version of Office do you have? I have Office 2007 on my Compaq and I experienced no problems after installing it.

    Cheres for the reply.....

Yeah 1st thing I did was uninstall Norton.....prefer Steganos. I too use a Compaq Notebook and I burned a couple of DVD'S for the factory settings.
I will have a look at unneccessary software.

I have SP1 and IE7 and just about to install Office Excel 2007, hopefully I don't have same problems again..................:)
