Volume Control not working

I had Malware problems and TimW helped me. Now everything is working great except the volume control do you think it was possible that something got removed with the malware to make it not work anymore. I do have the drivers for my motherboard. I tried to re-install it and I still only get the system sound and thats it. I have a ASUS P4S800 motherboard. I went to windows updates and I'm all up to date. I go to the device manager and it says there is no problems with the sound video and game controllers. I just don't understand how I can hear system sounds but nothing else and once trying to click on the volume control it pops up "There is no active mixer devices available." My OS is Windows XP pro.

 

Go to Start --> Run, and type in services.msc.

A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio. Right-click
and click on Properties.

Make sure that "Startup type" is set to automatic. Also, make sure, under "Service
status," start is selected.

ok now every time I reboot I have to start it again and I found my computer gets this error:

i tried this but when i went to click the start service it gave me this error in a little grey box that says services up on top and the little grey box has a yellow exclaimation point in the far left side and the message says:
Could not start the Windows Audio service on local computer.
Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start
Please help!!

HI EVERYONE...
PLEASE HELP!!! MY VOLUME CONTROL HAD VANISHED, AND WHEN I GO TO THAT FILE (SNDVOL32) AND CLICK ON IT I GET THIS MESSAGE..."THERE ARE NO ACTIVE MIXER DEVICES, GO TO CONTROL PANEL, CLICK PRINTERS AND OTHER HARDWARE, AND THEN CLICK ADD HARDWARE"
AND WHEN I GO TO CONTROL PANEL AND CLICK ON THAT IT DOES NOTHING, IT DOESNT EVEN OPEN. AND IN MY DEVICE MANAGER, THERE IS NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, JUST A WHITE BOX. AND IN THE "SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICE" FILE IN THE CONTROL PANEL THE TAB FOR THE VOLUME IN THAT TAB ITS ALL GREYED OUT YOU I CANT DO ANYTHING IN THERE AND ALSO IN THAT TAB IT HAS THE SPEAKER ICON AND NEXT TO IT IT SAYS "NO AUDIO DEVICE" PLEASE HELP, I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING, PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEA, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP...THANKS SO MUCH, JAMIE

Here at MG it is best to post your own thread, with your question in it. Just because your problem seems similar, the fixes may not be. It also keeps solutions from getting entangled and more complicated than need be.

And BTW post only ONE thread per problem.
