Hi, hope someone can help me.
For nearly 12 months I've had a VPN connection with my office, then last month it drops and I've tried everything I know to re-establish it.

I can ping it and I can now connect but I can't open outlook or get the microsoft exchange server to recognise my user name.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like your network admin people reconfigured things and messed up something in the process. Similar things have happened to me in the past. (They accidentally added an extra character at the end of my Exchange Server username, so I couldn't log in.) If you can now connect again, it would seem that they have fixed the VPN problem. Can you access Outlook from the office? If not, chase them up and make sure that they have your account correctly set up. You don't provide any information on the problem, but my guess is that they have upgraded Exchange Server, and as you are a teleworker it was a case of "out of sight, out of mind". If so I know the feeling :)

Hi, thanks for that, they'd changed it from ian to ians!! Unbelievable.

One more thing you might be able to help with, although I can now use Outlook all my contacts, incoming and outgoing messages have vanished, the computer guy is coming in today and it would be good to know what he should be doing.

    Thanks again

Bad news I think. When I found out that they had added an extra character to my name, I logged in. Lo and behold, about a hundred emails waiting for me. Then they vanished. While I was looking at them, they decided to delete the account rather than rename it! Your best bet is to try to get them to restore your old account from a backup, and do the job properly this time. Good luck!

Oh and when they removed the extra character it still didn't work. That's because the muppet concerned had left caps lock on SO THE USERCODE AND PASSWORD WERE IN UPPERCASE.

    Thanks Brian,
I think I may be lucky, because he said he just created a new account Ians, presumably leaving Ian as it was, he's hoping to retrieve this afternoon.

    Thanks again
    Ian
