I am trying to choose a VPN but most of the websites don't have a visual of what their product looks like, and if they do have a pic, it's of a phone. I'm old school, I use a PC and prefer text to little barely visible icons. Might anyone know which ones (if any) have text instead icons for their menus?
    thanks

Depends on what you look for in a VPN there are ones that run on the desktop of your computer or as like a Firefox or Chrome extension.

A typically reputable VPN service will run from within on a Windows PC.
This meaning the OS will take care of routed connections, and any need for a recharge or account administration, can be done from the associated website.
The only icon you should see is the one in the 'task bar' telling you connection is established, or perhaps a shortcut on the desktop which is probably unnecessary if the service is configured to connect at Boot!

When choosing a VPN, your biggest problem should be security.
Be very cautious of FREE vpn services as they have risen rapidly towards the top of the Security checklist.

Remember, your effectively trusting all of your data traffic to their servers.......ie They can see, and log, everything you do!

Information is worth money, and they are in the business of making money.
They have the means to bombard you with advertising and yes.....even onsell your bandwidth or worse.

I've already narrowed down to 3 or 4 services.. not the free ones.. will be running on a windows 7 machine. I didn't know there were ones that were browser specific extensions but I don't use firefox or chrome browsers so those 2 won't factor in. My concern is that I won't be able to see to do the initial set up if there are icons that I just see as irregularly shaped blotches... can't use the tools if ya can't see the tools.

Of the sites I looked at ExpressVPN and NordVPN seem to be the top choices.
Here are 3 screen shots of Express that appear to be on a computer

Here's a video that shows the screens on a Win 7 computer for NordVPN

Post the ones you are considering and I'll see if I can find screenshots or videos that show what you will see.

Know that if you are in the US this could be a concern.
Note: I don't use and have never used a VPN. I just post what I discover.
It was #7 on the list of 26 VPNs in 2018 that do not collect logs as tested by an independent researcher.

If a vpn tunnel is your intention, anonymity is key right?

A paid service utilizing a Bitcoin payment option makes sense......yes?

    My personal favorite Mullvad
    Its fast.

Pay in Euro and take advantage of exchange rates!
