I have set up my VPN connection to the best of my ability. I have checked everything 100 time on both computers (Driving back and forth to work was a pain). In My status of the connection it shows connected. I type in the IP address from the status (Client) and I get files from the home computer. If I type in the IP address from the Server I get can not open. If I type in the actual IP adress it can not connect. If you open the zip it will help you understand. Also I have opened ports (Port forwarding) on the other end. 3389 and 1723 for VPN. I have set this up according to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPpZzpM0OEk
    Thanks in advance
    Carmello

OPPS I DIDN'T MEAN FOR A VIDEO TO BE THERE JUST A WWW. PLACE WHERE I DID THIS FROM SORRY!

Hello Carmello. It seems that possibly your server is configured for the wrong IP address on VPN side. Maybe you need to configure the external IP.

What is your network configuration on both sides like?
    Thanks.

OPPS! I had all sorts of pieces of paper with IP address and passwords, logons ect. I had my home IP address inserted. I changed it (New connection) and I get a Error 800: can not connect unreachable. You probable want to see the same pictures except from the other computer correct? As in the original tread portforwarding has been done with 3389 and 1723 for VPN. also exception in my firewall.
    Send new pics?

Well what i'm really looking for is something like this.

What is your Internal IP and external IP on the Client and Server.

From both your Client and Server, how do you get onto the internet, and are there any routers in place.

And last, what are you using for software VPN?

There are routers on both ends. I have typed 192.168.1.1 in my address box which took me to configure the routers. See pics. I have checked and double checked firewall settings See pics. My IP thru router is 192.168.1.108 when I went to whatismyip.com it gave me 208.105.111.145 same as home! I think. OPPS. OK what now? See Pics maybe that will straighten it out.

Okay, you'll need to get me your home external IP/visa-versa.

Because you want to be able to access your internal network on both sides correct?

So, let me know what you have configured at home for your internal IP and the IP of the router, + your external IP, and we'll see what we can do from there. Thanks.

Because, really your HOME network should be trying to connect to the 208.105.111.145

yes correct. I am throwing all this junk in the trash and starting a nice NEAT paper with info on it. I went to myip.nmonitoring.com and it came up with
208.105.111.145 and then it said "Internal IP" 127.0.0.1. I have also configed my router to give me the same IP everytime.

    Domain Name rrcs-208-105-111-145.nys.biz.rr.com
the abouve info is for the work computer. I do want to conect both ways but 1 at a time I'm sure.
Thanks again, home in 10 min.

    Hello Carmello.

Wow alot of information. Okay first things first. The IP mentioned in this post
That is all your work information correct? Because if that is the case. Your home connection can be setup for a VPN tunnel going to 208.105.111.145 :) and that sets up your connection from your home to work. Since your home network is open.

Now to configure your work back to home. The information that you posted about your home network, is that the GettingCloser.Zip? Or was that your work information.

And that you for all the screenshots. They do help, but most of it makes it more confusing haha. :)
If Getting Closer.Zip is your home information, can I get you to setup your VPN from work to access stuff at home as "69.205.219.219".

And then you should be all set to access both sets of networks.

    So, looks like your set.
Configure your VPN at HOME to go to IP 208.105.111.145
Configure your VPN at Work to go to IP 69.205.219.219

    Then you should be good.
Test it and let me know if it works.

OK I JUST DISCONNECTED MY ROUTER FROM HOME AND PLUGGED MY MODEM IN DIRECTLY AND MADE A NEW CONNECTION. EVEN THOUGH IT SAID I DIDN'T HAVE PERMISSION TO VIEW ADMINISTRATORS FILES I LOOKED AROUND AT THE SHARED FILES AND STUFF AND IT WAS MY WORK COMPUTER! :p SO ITS THE ROUTER. SOMETHING IS NOT CONFIGURED CORRECTLY ON THE OUTGOING END.
    YOUR THOUGHTS?

Probably what the issue is that you don't have local rights of your PC. When your accessing those files, what account are you using "Local Administrator?" also, you may need to add a local administrator account or enable the folders that you need access to to be viewable by the everyone group. (Check the folder's Security Properties. Hope this helps.

I did get it to work once but I gave up. What I did was, I did alot of reading and went to DynDNS.com - Host Services and created a free account. then I went to HFS and download it so I have a server which I can grab files from. I want to thank you for all your time.

Hey thats fine, and that may work for you. I don't know why the VPN connection wouldn't work just like that. The only other thing that I can think of is that the IP addresses is either being used on the network, or the subnet masks may not match.

But if you can use that or the program that you suggested, either way as long as it works. :)

Having a little problem with that also. I really wanted the VPN. My first choice was remote desktop. How about a static IP? would that help?
    Carmello

  23. Elder_Usr

    Elder_Usr Sergeant

Yeah. The VPN with the remote desktop should work, as long as you opened up the ports, use the external IPs, and on the routers, take those Ports and forward them to their internal Ips. It should work without any issue what so ever. Otherwise, I would suggest getting Static External IPs.. and without routers in between, but that would cost alot of $$.
