I want to copy information of my m8's CD/Hard drive. We're miles apart. Can we set up a network using VPN? Any ideas how to do it, or for a site that explains? We're both on broadband and using routers. Can these act as a virtual server to accept VPN?

It would be a great help if you can help me out here.

    Thanks

    Steve.:D

mate VPN isnt worth the hassle!!
use FTP or somthing like that it seems simple enough your needs. VPN would be for if you wanted to access their printers and all other devices connected to their network and it looks like you dont need anything that complicated.
    Try this :

Cheers guys, I've used ftp to share the files I needed. I posted another thread called Remote File Sharing and made a bad gag about pirating software. Got my knuckles rapped for that one! oops, some people are so touchy! lol. I actually need it to test a transmission encryption package that I've written. It works on SMTP and FTP and on standard HTML transfers, but I want to try it on VPN, but have no idea how it works! I'm told its a pain, and I'm not convinced my router will work either, but I need to give it a go. What do I need to get it working? My initial efforts have been failures. On a related point, the Network Connections icon in Control Panel doesn't work. It keeps saying that I need to have the Network Connections Service running. I've checked services.msc in the "Run" command, and it is working. Does it need a related service running to work properly?

Look forward to hearing from you. Sorry to go on so much.

    Steve.

I believe you need a router that supports vpn.

Hmm .. don't know if mine does. It can work as a "virtual server" but I'm not convinced that is the same thing. I'll check the specs.

    Thanks again.
