W2000 - DVD decoder

I wish I'd never installed W2000 Pro. My system just told me in an error message box - that ther is no w2000 compatible DVD decoder installed on this system. It suggested I visit www.hardwareupdate.com - which is Dell. Can anyone tell me if there is a site I can go to which has the capability of checking out my system to tell me what I need? I didn't build the system, so I'm not sure the brand of DVD rom/CD Recorder/writer that's installed and there aren't any visible mfg. identification on it. (I haven't removed the hood, and would rather not.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, R.

Get SiSoft SANDRA fromHERE and click on System Summary and that will tell you what hardware you have installed ( generally it gives model numbers too )

Go here . I personally like Sandra's free version, but they all work well in finding info about your box.
