W2000 pro

I have difficulty updating my computer. I have it on automatic update - but sometimes that doesn't work so I like to check it from time to time. Wherever I try to get the update page, it goes from 'running' to 'not responding' several times until I finally reach that page. I gave up until I realized that it would succeed eventually. I show the task manager to help me. When it is 'not responding' it says '100% CPU'. Thanks!
