w22n51.sys Windows crash minidump

Hey,

I'm getting a Windows crash nearly everytime I start my computer. I've analyzed the minidump using windbg and the culprit seems to be w22n51.sys which is an Intel Wireless driver. I've completely deleted this driver and updated the driver as well but no luck. The error still appears even though searching for the file (w22n51.sys) returns nothing.

I've got no idea how a driver which doesn't even exist as a file can be causing errors. Wireless does work fine though (it seems to be using a newer driver).

The Windows error I usually get on startup (though not always) is "The system has recovered from a serious error". Choosing not to send the error to MS opens another error.

Does windows keep a copy of drivers in some hidden location?? I even booted off a Linux disk and searched for w22n51.sys and found nothing!!

One of the minidumps is attached. I've tested with different RAM and I still get the error.

Have you tried using the "Restore/Repair" feature on the Windows Installation CD? Maybe even a fresh reformat if you dont mind losing all your information.

 

Yes, I tried a complete restore and ended up with the same result. Super frustrating.... I have a suspicion Norton might be at fault but I'm not sure...I've given up honestly...

 

I have been using a DLink ADSL router with no problems at all. Just "upgraded" to Orange and when I try and log onto a particuar web site the PC stops, indicating W22n51.sys has a problem. Switch back to the DLink router and it works! Anyone any idea why this might be? So to previous posts on this thread, it may not be your PC at all, it may be your router but I have no idea why!

 

My computer is fine untill i open up limewire or azureus to download with. My wireless connection is fine untill i open up and start downloading on these websites!!! I am running D-Link DSL 502T router and a D-Link DI 524 wireless router. Internet connection is fine untill I start downloading anything on Limewire or Azureus. Anyone got any suggestions as this is driving me nuts!!!

 

Looks like i stumpled onto an old problem. Anyone have any new suggestions on how to repair this error or even an idea where it's coming from since I can't locate it.

This problem was caused by Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2200BG adapter software (w22n51.sys). Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2200BG adapter software (w22n51.sys) was created by Intel Corporation.

A solution is available that will solve this problem.

Go to the Intel Corporation website to learn more about the solution.

Result of search is that Intel doesn't make this part any more, therefore no more support. Anybody, Bueller? I just want to keep my data...too much to ask?:cry :cry

As of yesterday I have had this problem. Windows crashed with a BSOD (the error being w22n51.sys) almost every hour, this was happening while using a torrent client and/or emule. I checked a few other forums out and they recommended updating the driver for Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2200BG adapter (I updated from 8.x to 9.0.4.37 - driver date 25.7.2007). I left the computer running till morning with torrent and emule and windows didn't crash.
For now it seems that this works. Hope it helps you guys out
