Long story, I have done the Read & Run me first section, except I could not get online in safe mode & in regular boot, the problems occur when online. The initial problem was a form of windadtools, which would start running about 30 seconds after I went online. The online icon would indicate that info was being sent from my computer, and access to websites was very limited, if at all. I ran Ad-Aware, CCleaner, Spybot S&D, tried to run Windows MS Antispyware(but would not since I don't have IE 6). I ran McAfee Stinger, which found several viruses, I apologize that I don't have which ones in front of me, I'm at work, and that is our home computer. I do remember one was the perfhomon (sp?) virus. Stinger removed all the viruses. I restarted in reg. boot mode installed a firewall, as per your site. The firewall caught some various programs trying to send info, which I blocked. Now the problem is that the performance is non-existent when I am on line. The mouse moves herky-jerky, you can't go to web pages, I haven't even tried e-mail. The firewall also caught the following programs trying to run; winjava.exe, mapi32.exe, dbghlp, updated.exe, csrss.exe. I googled all of those, and the first 2 seemd to be problematic, so I blocked them with the firewall.
We just got this computer from friends who no longer needed it, and therefore don't much info on it. I am willing to reinstall the OS, my work computer is 2000 professional, and I have clone disks for it. Would rebooting in Last Known Good Configuration work? Help! Thanks!

If the last known config was saved and was the pc working properly at that time?
Installing a clean(mbr etc )os on a new to you pc is always a good idea as the problem may have been one of the reasons you received it(pc)

The pc was working fine when we first started using it, the problems seemed to start when I first installed the Earthlink Total Access software, don't know why I did that, ahd problems on our old pc. I then uninstalled the Earthlink stuff, and downloaded Google toolbar, and that is when all the crazy winadtools started, don't know if it was a coincidence or not. I trust the people we got it from, but the pc did used to be on a network, and may have had prior issues, but it did work great the first 5 days we had it, until I got the Google toolbar. ????
