W2KPRO Start-up and icon strangeness!

Greetings!

This is strange...I have two W2KPro computers that are doing the same things. I automatically am logged in to both machines as admin. Two problems:

1. upon boot-up, no program can be started from the desktop. One solution I have found is to hit C-A-Delete and click Task Manager. Once done everything works fine! Looking at the performance tab does not show anything hogging the resources. Computer will run fine until next reboot.

2. I can drag icons on the desktops but they always immediately return to the original position. I can align by name or whatever, which works, but I can not put them where I want them.

Apparently something in the registry is amiss. The MS site had one suggestion but it was correct when I looked and did not help. Can anyone give me a clue? THANKS MUCH --- THIS IS MAKING ME CRAZY!!!:banghead

 

Haven't touched 2k for ages. Right-click empty desktop, uncheck any aligning options. Or create another account, log into it & see if you can place icons where you like.
