w32spybot.com

My PC states I have the w32spybot.com virus. Is this for real? I have norton antivirus, and when I did a full scan it stopped before the end and failed to complete. But the "full scan" from the norton web site states there is no virus? Anyone heard of this 'virus' and why can I not scan with the norton software?

OK why didnt norton web scan pick this up? I have used this service thinking it would be top of the line catch everything good stuff! Wouldnt a 3 month old virus be in theyre database?

 

according to that site, if you got it (which you arent even sure if you got it or not) says that it could have been easily prevented....HOW? update your windows, I cannot stress this enough for newbies. simply go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com on a regular basis, and choose all updates under "critical" and "windows XX" (XX= your version ie: XP, 2000)

No unfortunately it did not work I do not know how to remove it using ??? "engine and DAT files '. What are these and what do I do. Even an attempt to download updates from microsoft just went into limbo land after one minute it froze. I have been keeping up with Big Fix windows updates. But my PC is obviously not functioning well , difficulty with downloads and even opening web pages that just fail. Any help would be much appreciated

Well lets see some specs man.What OS are you running etc.

 

I just ran the virus scans and they came up negative! Still get error messages "entry point not found" and for some reason my norton scan for viruses freezes half way through even when I give it all night. Also still get the warning that I have the spybot worm, possibly norton has in fact done its job and it is isolated.
Specs in case it makes a differance
Emachine, XP home version 1400 MHz, 384 RAM
