I just came from the electronics store with Windows 7 64 bit full version. (incidentally $139.99 Builder Pack). The Tech/Salesman convinced me that I could install 64 bit on my system even though my system now is 34 bit and it would be to my advantage. I am too technically naive to really believe that. Did he tell me the truth?

Yes, he is telling you the truth. It's all about whether you have a 64-bit capable CPU and the e6600 is 64-bit.

Just a note: you can't upgrade to 64bit, so back up your files before you install.
