W7 64b single multi-drive burner problem

Some weeks ago I was here with the problem of Windows DVD maker failing to burn videos to DVD. It would get to 1 or 2% then just sit there until I terminated it. Occassionly it would burn right up to 99% but not finish.

I believe the answer given to me was that my cheapie eMachine was having hardware problems.

I resurrected this because I just discovered I can burn videos to a CD (as opposed to a DVD), and they play well on the computers.

This seems to put the problem back into the software category. Does it give anyone a clue?

Having motherboard drivers is critical here. Most Microsoft software included is pretty bad. Windows DVD maker is slow and cumbersome. Let's try some better, free software:
